What's with this blog?

I usually garden in my blog. I mean, it is a means of recording what is going on in my garden, what is blooming, what I am planting., etc. etc,. etc.

But I am not in my garden right now. It is so hot.....

I know, terrible excuse.

BUT.....

It is and has been over 100 degrees every day for weeks. Heat indices are 108-110 average and this is by 9:30. By 8:00am, it is like a blast furnace, with no breeze. Stifling...

On top of that, we are in the worst area for drought in the country. My yard is green, because I am watering, but if we start rationing, it could be different. I am just trying to keep things alive at this point.

Things are about to get better though. I am soon to be in the garden again- wait! make that the greenhouse. I am going to start seeds in pots for the vegetable garden; tomatoes and peppers mostly, but maybe a few other things too. It will be a great leap of faith, but I know we will get rain soon.

And I am going to sow my seeds of poppy, larkspur, calendula, viola, and snapdragons. Even if I have to water, cooler weather will help a lot.

Looking forward to cooler weather!

Please do not open the door and send that heat this way ... OTOH we are having an unusually cool July. High tomorrow? 69 degrees! What??? No drought here.

I go outside despite the heat, I just don't stay long.

What do you know about sowing seeds of spring annuals in July that I haven't heard? Do they need baking? Do I need to try this? My November planted annuals bloomed fine, as did the ones in January for the new meadow bed. Maybe seeds don't consult a calendar?

BTW, the meadow bed is now a bermuda lawn. DH will scrape it close clipped when the bermuda dies back and I'll try another early meadow.

LOL, Nell, I am not going to sow my seeds of spring annuals right now. As far as I know, they do not need baking, but with the luck I have had with them for the last 3years, I might need to try that.

No, I will sow them in October. Just wrapping myself in that plan for now. I need to prepare my mind well, to get things done eventually.

Sixty nine degrees, for a high? What is that about? Do your veggies produce at that temp?

I do have some pretties in the garden. My crocosmia is blooming beautifully, along with some late daylilies. My porterweed has never stopped blooming, nor the salvias. My hibiscus do bloom, but because they are getting so much 'city water', they are not lush with beautiful foliage. Beautiful blooms tho.....

We did have some cool days back a week or so ago, because it rained. Then it got hot again. The gnats never missed a beat.

What veggies? By the end of June, veggies were toast. Then the rains set in. Then they stopped. Now they've started again.

Those folks in the PNW who don't do hot are really suffering. There's an orange rose cutting blooming in a pot here that is the one I think you wanted.
